My statement on privacy in our conencted world.

Privacy is crucial for everyone. It prevents people from being discriminated against and taken advantage of. Each year, we create new ways to obtain information about the world around us. This information can create new possibilities with technology that can open the door to brilliant new inventions that can change our lives. These inventions can do anything from saving lives to making travel easier. As a software developer myself, I know how easy it is for individuals and companies collect powerful information from users. However, as Spiderman has always says "With great power, comes great responsibility." and this is why I have decided to work towards promoting good privacy practices My approach to privacy in my products and services is based on the idea that information should only be collected for a good reason and with the USER'S CONSENT AND UNDERSTANDING. Finding a good reason for collecting information can be easy, and many apps are now showing users reasons why they need information before beginning data collection. On the contrary, I feel that the technology industry needs to change the way user consent is obtained. I know many of you (myself included), have signed up for a service or two by clicking agree to privacy policy popups without reading a single sentence. I believe that this practice is misleading and an abuse of people's rights. User consent may come in the form of a clicked button but it should also show some proof that the user understands what data is collected and why. Because of this, I am working on a method that involves some sort of quiz that users must take when signing up for my services that demonstrates their understanding of what data is collected and why. This may be as simple as a multiple choice bubble question or a check mark question. I will update my privacy page accordingly as I progress in this development.
